Bio
Louise has been a contemporary artist for 30 years. She began as a fiber artist making baskets that expanded the traditional image of the ancient craft, learning native American basketry techniques in New Mexico. Her travel also was the inspiration for the ZipBling line of jewelry shown in the gallery, coming from a trip to South Africa and an immersion into native crafts. Many items she saw for sale there began with recycled materials. Louise returned home and started to see everyday items in a new way. Suddenly it was possible to make the ordinary, extraordinary! ZipBling jewelry grew from this exploration.
“As I began working with a variety of zipper pulls, the challenge became how to configure them so that it was not obvious what they were at first glance. When people realized my jewelry was made of zippers they were amused and enchanted. Bringing a little whimsy into our world was reason enough for me to keep creating new designs!”
