BIO

Kathryn Yamartino’s artistic journey began just eleven years ago after a concussion changed the way she perceives color and scans the visual field.  As the demands of career and family lightened, she increasingly devoted her energy to learning and exploring art.  Kathryn studied with nationally known artists such as Ken Kewley, Steve Aimone, and Pamela Caughey.  She creates abstract works with cold wax medium and oils, acrylic mixed media, and collage. Her work has been juried into shows in Massachusetts, South Carolina and Georgia.   Kathryn lives with her husband, Paul, and their two goldendoodles in Acton, MA.

I paint for the experience of it, to be swept away, to be present, to solve problems, to express something genuine and to allow passage through the expected frustrations and impasses. Painting with friends makes this exploration even richer. I learn something new about myself and the process of creating every day. Sometimes, I’m rewarded by a result that is authentic and satisfying and will speak to another viewer as well.
